Massey Energy Adds High Quality Central Appalachia Coal Reserves
RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Massey Energy Company
(NYSE: MEE) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of various
coal assets from The Brink's Company (NYSE: BCO) including more than 14.0
million tons of coal reserves and numerous inactive mining permits for cash
consideration of approximately $10.0 million and the assumption of
approximately $5.0 million in related leasehold and reclamation liabilities.
The majority of the acquired coal reserves are of metallurgical quality, and
are strategically located adjacent to Massey's Knox Creek Resource Group in
Central Appalachia and, as a result, will provide significant cost and quality
advantages for Massey when developed.

acquiring additional coal assets. In total, Massey expects to acquire or gain
operating rights from The Brink's Company to approximately 46.0 million tons
of coal reserves.
