[02-December-2008]

ATLANTA, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Ventyx(R), the world's largest private software provider to the energy and utility industry, today announced that leading public power supplier Energy Northwest has selected the Ventyx Shift Operations Management System (eSOMS) (http://www1.ventyx.com/esoms/overview.asp) software to help the utility comply with the new "Nuclear Fatigue Rule (NFR)."

Recently enacted by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the new rule (10 CFR 26, Subpart I) is designed to manage fatigue of personnel at commercial nuclear power reactors. All nuclear operators must be in compliance with NFR by October 1, 2009. Once implemented, eSOMS will help Energy Northwest become one of the first nuclear facilities in the U.S. to comply with the NFR. Ventyx worked with one of the largest North American nuclear operators, a long-time client, to enhance eSOMS with new capabilities empowering utilities to comply with the expanded scope and complexity of the new NFR regulations.

"Energy Northwest has been a leading power supplier to the Northwest public power community for 50 years," said Energy Northwest CIO Keith Cook, "and this record can only be maintained by staying ahead of the new challenges in our industry. We chose Ventyx for our NFR solution due to their long history of delivering a comprehensive solution set for nuclear operators. We required a forward-looking approach to NFR compliance and their solution allows us to see potential fatigue rule infringements before they occur, allowing us to schedule around them. And, the software provides a comprehensive group of reports that will help us manage our shift schedules, plan our maintenance outages and fulfill the reporting requirements of the new NRC rules."

"The new rule presents a significantly expanded scope and complexity of applicable personnel, fatigue metrics, analytics, assessments, waivers, reporting and review requirements. The existing methods and tools used by licensees to manage nuclear worker fatigue are no longer adequate, and a time-keeping only approach is insufficient," said Ventyx Industry Solutions Executive Matt Lechowicz. "In response, Ventyx joined with a long-standing client to enhance our eSOMS personnel qualification and scheduling module to help them meet the stringent new requirements. We are grateful that Energy Northwest has recognized the benefits of these enhancements and has decided to employ eSOMS for NFR compliance, building on Ventyx's unmatched success in nuclear."
